Dressage Clinic with Henk Glijn 2008

What a treat for riders to have Henk Glijn come to VDRC again and give us another wonderful dressage clinic. All the riders enjoyed their lessons tremendously and Henk was his usual cheery self - in fact he was in such good form that all riders had very complimentary comments! Henk is a purist and was mindful of the horse's well-being whilst pushing everyone to do better. All the horses showed improvement in their way of going, the weather was perfect , not too hot, and the atmosphere was wonderful with Pony Club testing going on in the other rings. We hope to have Henk back for another dressage clinic in the fall so stay posted and do come and join this super horseman.

VDRC Dressage and Hack Show 2008

Performing in front of the expert eyes of judges Doreen Horsey from Alberta and Isabel Reinertson of Salmon Arm, over 50 Dressage riders took the stage at the Vernon District Riding Club grounds this past weekend. With wishes of good luck and hopes of good weather, competitors from up and down the Valley were able to show off their abilities.

The Walk Trot Champion Awards were presented to Vernon's Catherine Dawson and her horse "Pretty Spirit Dancer" and Makayla DeMatos riding "Icis". Bronze Freestyle Champion and Reserve Champion were awarded to Ashley Walton-Bose and her horse "Amy", while Janneke Guenther of Lake Country took the Junior Championship with "Penny Pilot", owned by Anna Hunt-Binkley. However, it was a little pony stallion that stole the attention of the spectators: "Northwind's Just An Affair", shown by Kate Mincey and owned by Lois Philp of Crossrail Farm, took home the Bronze Senior Championship with his two scores of over 78%.

In the Silver Division, the musical Freestyle Championship was awarded to Bonnie Derry of Endymion Farms and her horse "Binka" and Jodi Hackman with "Contouros" took the Reserve Championship. The Open Training Level Championship was awarded to Megan Creel riding "Uccello", owned by Rebecca Clyburn, and Jacqueline Cross on "Custom Chrome Hit The Jackpot", owned by James Jaworkski, was awarded Reserve Champion. The Junior Training Level Champion was Janneke Guenther on "Prince" and Morgan Hooton was awarded Reserve Champion. First Level High Test Champion was earned by Karis Van Essen, with Leslee Watts's "Camistry J", and Jamie Szestapalow of Coldstream took Reserve Champion. Second Level High Test Champion was Awarded to Kathrin Maxwell riding "Wilden", owned by Cindy Eckhout, and Third Level High Test Champion was given to Megan Wright, riding Jane Windeler's horse "Irish".

  VDRC Hunter/Jumper Show 2008

Despite mixed weather and some very wet moments, the VDRC Hunter/Jumper Show saw close to 100 competitors, with entries coming from throughout the Okanagan and Shuswap and as far as the Lower Mainland. Hunters competed Saturday and Jumpers on Sunday over beautiful courses created by course designer Joan Miller of Kamloops. Robi Smallwood of Westbank judged both days. Special thanks to all the wonderful volunteers (over 20 of them!) who made this show so successful. - View Results -

  VDRC Spring Show 2008

The VDRC Spring Show on April 19 promised to be a lovely start to the season with both English and Western classes qualifying for the General Performance and Western Heritage Championships. Our usually reliable sunny weekend turned a surprising corner when early arrival competitors woke up to a thick blanket of snow! Due to trailers potentially getting stuck and freezing temperatures, not to mention all that snow, unfortunately the show had to be cancelled. We hope next year will bring sunnier spring skies and hope to see you all at the upcoming Hunter/Jumper Show June 7 and 8.
